Addiction among youth nowadays is becoming more common. Majority of the teenagers are addicted to one thing or the other. Either it be their mobile phone or alcohol, majority of them are not able to overcome their addictions.

Due to addictions the teens someday feel guilty for their deeds and get depressed. This results them into committing a suicide or consume more of alcohol or taking drugs or doing anything injurious to health.

So to understand addiction, first of all we need to know that what actually addictions are.
Addiction is a condition that results when a person ingests a substance like cocaine or alcohol or engages in an activity like gambling, sex, mobile phones, the internet etc. that can be pleasurable and continuation of which becomes compulsive for the person.

Addiction hampers the functioning of the brain.
Due to consumption of drugs or alcohol or engaging in addictive activities releases certain hormones in your brain that makes you happy. The person now feels to have more and more pleasure. With time the brain adapts to such pleasures and builds a habit which is nearly unbreakable.
In this way your brain responds to addictions.

Now addictions are not good for anyone.
So how to get rid of them?????

Please understand that to break an addiction you need to replace your addiction with a new habit.
A new habit will ensure that you would no more get tempted towards your addiction.  

STEP 1 - Make a practical and achievable goal.
Pick a goal you want to achieve. Now the goal must be practical and achievable. With this I mean that set a goal which is practically possible and can be achieved in a certain reasonable period of time.
For  eg - If a teenager wants to get rid of his addiction for phone. Then his goal must be to get rid of phone addiction in a certain period of time say 1 month and instead of using his phone more he may develop the habit of reading.

STEP 2 - Make a daily challenge.
To break an addiction, a big chunk of the habit cannot be broken at once. So set daily challenges to achieve your goal.
You can also set weekly goals for a better, fun and challenging way to break your habit.

STEP 3 - Set triggers
Whenever you have an urge or a temptation of the addictive habit, start doing any activity that prevents you to respond to the temptation.
For eg - One can do sit ups whenever he gets tempted.

STEP 4 - Get rid of the temptation
To speed up the process remove all the things from your workplace and home which make you feel tempted.
Remove drugs and alcohol from your home. If you have addiction for your mobile device then that can't be thrown out of your home. Instead set it on silent or do not disturb and keep it in a place where you can't see it.


BONUS TIP - Create reminders
Create reminders to achieve your goals. Take a big piece of paper or a board on which you can write on. Write a piece of sentence reminding of what do you wanna do and write the benefits of doing so. 
Now place the reminder board at a place where you visit most of the times in your house and your workplace or study place.
If possible place a copy of the same board in your bedroom so as soon as you wake up, it becomes the first thing that you see in the morning.
This way you won't forget your goal.

You can also write a motivational quote on the board to keep yourself motivated.

SUPER TIP - Reward yourself
Reward yourself every time you achieve your weekly goals.
You can eat an ice cream or a small pack of fries. 
Whatever reward you give yourself whether it be food or anything, it must be healthy for you.
